jires Loabangunzi, ienglish lab assistant

 

Jires was born in Kinshasa, Republic Democratic of Congo. After graduating from high school, he worked as a cashier and in a Cyber Cafe. Jires decided to flee to Ecuador after losing many family members. After traveling through South America, Jires settled in Arizona. He then arrived in Maine and wanted to learn to speak English. Jires began taking English classes with IWC at the Jewish Community Alliance in the Summer of 2022 and enrolled in the online English lessons platform, EnGen. He is also taking classes at the Portland Adult Education. He began volunteering in the IWC Language Lab with interpretation and tech support.

Back in D.R.C., Jires enjoyed boxing and playing soccer with his friends. He likes eating bread, chicken, Beef, and fufu. A fun fact about Jires is that he is a smiley person!
