LGBTQ+ Immigrant Gatherings @ Equality Community Center

Join Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, Queerly ME, the Equality Community Center, and EqualityMaine at our first immigrant social gathering, bringing together first, second, and third generation LGBTQIA+ immigrants in Maine.

This gathering will be held at the Equality Community Center at 15 Casco Street in Portland, Maine. In partnership, we endeavor to create a space that is safe and welcoming to LGBTQIA+ immigrants in Maine and encourage community feedback as this space continues to develop.

Need an interpreter? Please email lschopp@maineimmigrantrights.org to make a request; please state that you will be attending the immigrant social at the ECC, and communicate which language you will need interpretation in.

Need to carpool? Please email kwarnock@queerlyme.org to make a request, and we will try our best to connect you with another attendee in your area; please state your town in the request.

Light refreshments will be provided as well as community resources. We hope to see you there! This is an in-person only event.

Join us for Nurture All Afric Foundation's inaugural conference, Renewing East Africa: A Conference on Humanitarian Aid, Stabilization & Good Governance. Renewing East Africa strives to bring community members and leaders of Maine and East Africa together to create a progressive dialog via presentations and panel discussions. We're excited to come together to promote awareness of the challenges many East Africans face, and to educate Mainers on how we can all be a part of renewing East Africa in the scope of humanitarian aid, stabilization and good governance.

We are honored to have Kenyan Ambassador Honorable Mahboub Maalim join us as our keynote speaker, various presenters from members of the government, higher education and the non-profit sectors, and a student panel. The panel will feature students from Maine Universities, and will be discussing their first-hand experiences as refugees and immigrants from East Africa, their on-going connections to their home countries, and how Maine can support.

University of Southern Maine Libraries & Learning and the Kate Cheney Chappel ‘83 Center for Book Arts present an artist book workshop with Annie Lee-Zimerle for immigrants and New Americans in our local community. Participants will learn easy ways of making and illustrating handmade books. Space is limited!

 A limited number of participant stipends are available to support the transportation needs and work or care responsibilities of first- and second-generation immigrants.
