The passing of Executive Director and dear friend Alain Jean Claude Nahimana

It is with deep sadness that the Board and Staff of the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center announce the passing of our Executive Director and dear friend Alain Jean Claude Nahimana.  As we work with his family on ways in which to honor his life and support his legacy, we request that the privacy of family and the Center community be respected.   The Center will post a GoFundMe campaign on its Facebook page and website this upcoming week with memorial plans as soon as we know them. 

How lucky we were to have Alain in our lives. As he often said, by working together, we can make great things happen.  It is our job now to fulfill his vision to ensure that Greater Portland’s thriving immigrant community fully reaches its civic, economic and social potential.

We look forward to celebrating a life well lived and making him proud by continuing the outstanding work which had just begun at GPIWC.
